State Rep. David Law to Formally Kick-off Campaign for Oakland County Prosecutor

-Joined by Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca and Chairman of the Oakland County Commission Bill Bullard-

(Pontiac, MI)..... Former Assistant Oakland County Prosecutor and current two-term State Rep. David Law (R-Commerce Township) formally began his campaign to replace out-going Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca at a kick-off event today, Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Oakland County Commissioner’s Auditorium.

Joined at the kick-off by out-going Prosecutor David Gorcyca and Chairman of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Bill Bullard, Rep. Law highlighted his proposed priorities and direction for the Prosecutor’s office.  “Prior to being elected to the Michigan Legislature, I worked under David Gorcyca as an assistant prosecutor for 6 ½ years and have always admired the work he has done with the office.  My time in the prosecutor’s office and in the legislature has left and indelible mark on my life.  I have dedicated my entire professional career to protecting children and families”, said Law.

Some of Rep. Law’s highlights of the 18 bills that he has sponsored and are now law  while in the legislature include the authoring of Michigan’s “Jessica’s Law”; which requires strict mandatory prison sentences and lifetime GPS monitoring after release for those sexual predators who prey on our children, legislation that eliminated the statute of limitations on conspiracy to commit murder cases, Michigan’s Medicaid Fraud Prevention Act and the Airport Security Bill; a law to increase penalties for contempt of court.

Rep. Law’s vision for the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office include creating an Internet Predator Division that works closely with the Sheriff’s Department and local police, continue to prosecute those who commit felonies with a firearm to the fullest extent, and place an increased emphasis on reviewing “cold cases” very similar to what Attorney General Mike Cox did to bring the perpetrator to justice.  “These are just the highlights of what I would like to do as your next Oakland County Prosecutor”, said Law.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office has a long history of being able to work closely with local, state and federal government to ensure safety and justice for Oakland County.  “During his time in my office and while in the state legislature, David Law has always been someone who you can count on to lead when tough decisions need to be made.  He would make a great prosecutor”, said Prosecutor David Gorcyca.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive races in Michigan.  “The Democrats seem to think this is a seat that they can win.  Fortunately for Republicans, Rep. David Law is the only one in this race with the unique blend of being an Assistant Oakland County Prosecutor and authored numerous laws protecting children and families while in the legislature.  He is well suited to be the Oakland County Prosecutor”, said Commission Chairman Bill Bullard.  The general election for this seat is not until November, 2008.  For more information, please visit www.lawforprosecutor.com
